| Historic School Renovations Near Completion, the borough’s
elementary/high school complex to re-open as luxury
condominiums
CLAYTON, A beautiful and historic landmark
in this quaint community has been given new life. Abandoned
more than ten years ago, by then developer Silver Lake Academy
Inc., the transformation of Clayton’s former elementary/high
school complex into luxury condominiums has been rejuvenated
by Pine Lakes Development Group, LLC. Says Pine Lakes
President Dan Vecchio, "it is our intention to create a
condominium revitalization which will be the jewel of not only
Clayton, but the entire region."
Situated in the privately gated site on Clayton-Aura road
are 49 elegant condominiums for sale to individuals and
couples aged 55 or older. Upon entering the complex, one is
greeted by the columned arched entranceway leading into a
marble-floored foyer. The impressiveness is continued by the
sconced lighting in the halls and an elevator servicing all
four floors. Upon entering the individual units one is
captivated by the airy openness of the unit. With their open
floor plan, elegant master baths and expansive great rooms,
the condominium units are sure to be a delight for any active
adult seeking a quiet retreat from the bustle of the outside
world. Residents can relax in their personalized home with
their choice of color scheme, appliances, counter-tops,
carpeting or tile.
For those adults seeking to bring their active lifestyle
home with them, the complex is expected to feature a resort
style fitness center and clubhouse. Anticipated amenities
include rowing machines, treadmills, fitness-club style weight
machines, and a sauna in each locker room. After showering,
residents may choose to socialize in the fireplaced club room
or engage in cards or billiards with other residents.
Vecchio saw the facility as an opportunity to save a
community landmark while offering true luxury living to active
seniors, 55 and over. Says Vecchio, "once I drove past the
building and saw that such a beautiful structure had been
abandoned I had to know more. After I was able to walk through
the building and see its immense potential I was amazed, the
complex is remarkably unique in its grandeur and design in
this area ." Jeanne Schoellkopf, 62, a former teacher at the
school who now works in the borough’s construction office,
said the building had a storied past as a sending school for
several Gloucester County communities, and that residents
around the borough are excited about its future. "There was
always something magical about it," she said. "I just knew
somebody would come out and save the lady."
